National Trust – Grain to Glory

Wheat Wreath Making and Corn Dolly workshops.

This year Winchester City Mill are celebrating the theme ‘Grain to Glory’.  To honor the relationship between land and product we will be offering two straw workshops.  Winchester City Mill uses wheat from New House Farm 7 miles North of Winchester;  using traditional machinery and the natural power of the river Itchen produces their own unique stoneground wholemeal flour.

We too will be using the same wheat for our workshops.

Both workshops will be running on the same day so you can choose to book for both to give yourself a full immersion in these age old traditional crafts.

Venue: National Trust Winchester City Mill

Wheat Wreath Making

13th September 10 – 12pm

£30 per person

Make your own natural wreath using British grown wheat.  Your instructor Mollie will also add dried grasses and seed heads harvested locally to where she lives.  Made on a hazel rod hoop your wreath will last indefinitely if looked after and be a wonderful decoration for a door or wall in your home.

Corn Dolly Making

13th September  1.30 – 3.30pm

£30 per person

Using ancient and versatile methods such as spiralling, plaiting and folding this workshop will allow you to produce a number of small corn dolly projects.   These very traditional projects look delightful and intricate but are very enjoyable and fun to make!
